The Community Advisory Board in Lima

What do you think is important of the iPrEx study?
The CAB thinks that the iPrEx study is important because:

  1. It will contribute to find an alternative preventive solution to face HIV infection.
  2. iPrEx is an alternative solid scientific proposal in the context of situations that put vulnerable populations at risk.
  3. Shall the study be effective, it will be a prevention alternative to HIV infection.
  4. If the study probes to be efficacious to prevent HIV infection, it will be an effective solution since the active medication used in iPrEx could have few adverse events, would be tolerable and would generate less resistance.

What do you think of the participation of Peru in iPrEx?
We think that it is positive that Peru is the country where enrollment is a success, since the expected aim has overcome the expectations of the investigators of the study. We are sure shall outcomes are favorable, our country would be one of the direct beneficiaries.

What do you think about iPrEx expansion?
The expansion is important because it will allow the investigation to broad, and with a larger number of participants will allow to answer specific scientific questions that have not been solved yet.

From this perspective it is fundamental to consider the following:

  1. One of the main strategies for the iPrEx expansion is prevention counseling to be considered in the study
  2. Participants should understand that the study medication—Truvada®—has not been proved to protect against exposure and/or sexual risk behaviors
