The preparation of the report for the interim analysis took a herculean effort from data managers at the 11 study sites, the data management center, DF/Net, based in Seattle, state of Washington in the United States, the iPrEx Study Coordinator and the Study Statisticians based at the University of California San Francisco.
As of August 31st, there were 2,372 participants enrolled, and 95% of them were still in the study. The study had dispensed 839,340 pills of study medication.
The study had provided 1,562 doses of hepatitis B vaccines, diagnosed and treated 298 sexually transmitted infections (STI) and distributed more than 400,000 condoms to study participants. According with participants’ reports of sexual partners in the last 12 weeks, the median number of partners has dropped from 7 partners reported at baseline (before enrolling in the study) to 2 reported during consecutive follow up study visits after enrollment.
Finally, the study had produced 400,201 pages of data since June 18th, when the first volunteer was screened back in 2007, in Lima, Peru.
